Just over a decade ago, Tesla shipped its first US-made electric vehicle to China. Today, it delivers tens of thousands of cars to mainland customers each month, the majority of which are manufactured locally in its Shanghai Gigafactory.
Now it looks like Elon Musk wants to replicate his EV playbook in China with humanoid robots.
This week, Tesla launched a Weibo account called TeslaAI, with its first posts featuring images of an Optimus robot with a golden exterior and a video of the humanoid serving popcorn.
“The account suggests that Tesla is beginning to lay the groundwork for a major push into China for its humanoid robots over the next three to five years,” said Paul Triolo, a partner at Albright Stonebridge Group.
